I like to look around and see what is compelling and arresting and try to say something about it. Because I live in a coastal area in Massachusetts, it’s often about the shore, but I also sail, garden, and travel, and I interpret things I see on my walkabouts, and sailing passages. I paint en plein air when I can north of Boston, and these motifs find their way into my watercolors, drawings, prints and oil paintings. I have studied with some great New England artists, including drawing, watercolor and printmaking with Joel Janowitz of Boston, moku hanga woodcut with Matt Brown of Lyme, NH, woodcut with Julia Wolcott of Watertown, MA, and am a long time student of plein air painting with Gary Tucker of Boston.
